#GoBigLA: Bringing Hollywood Jobs Home

Restoring a Bedrock of L.A.’s Middle Class

Mayor Eric Garcetti spearheaded a tripling of the state’s filming incentive program to bring $1.7 billion in production and 50,000 entertainment jobs back home to L.A., where they belong. For too long, other states and countries have been luring away our Hollywood jobs -- a bedrock of L.A.’s middle class. Recognizing that losing our entertainment industry was tantamount to Detroit losing its auto industry or the Silicon Valley losing its tech companies, Mayor Garcetti went all in and delivered.

Mayor Garcetti said at a recent event highlighting the success of the program:

"If you grew up in Detroit, someone on your block worked for an auto company or was employed where autoworkers spent their paychecks. Here in L.A., the same goes for our entertainment industry. It's the bedrock of our middle class, putting truck drivers, electricians, makeup artists, carpenters and caterers to work. That's who this is all about. Leading the fight to triple our state film tax credit is bringing 50,000 jobs and $1.7 billion in production back home, and is a key part to our jobs strategy that has outpaced the nation in job growth and cut our unemployment rate in half."

Let's recap. By tripling film tax credits to bring middle class jobs home, L.A. with Mayor Garcetti:

  • Made 2016 a record year for filming in Los Angeles

  • Generated $1.5 billion in production

  • Generated $326 million in wages for “below the line” crew members

  • Created City’s first Entertainment and Production Office and issued an executive directive so every City department cuts red tape for job-creating entertainment productions

That's going big. Let's spread the word: #GoBigLA
