United Teachers Los Angeles Endorses Eric Garcetti

United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) last night overwhelmingly voted to endorse Eric Garcetti for mayor of Los Angeles with 146 out of 158 votes casted for Garcetti.

UTLA President Warren Fletcher said, “We look forward to working with Eric Garcetti as mayor. He listens to teachers. He understands the importance of our expertise and our commitment to educating students.”

“I am honored to have the support of Los Angeles' classroom teachers,” said Garcetti. “We need to improve our schools and build bridges back to our teachers and make them the center of building a great education system. As mayor, I will break down the walls that have isolated our schools from our communities.”

UTLA is a union of professionals representing over 35,000 public school teachers and health and human services professionals in Los Angeles.

Garcetti has won a broad spectrum of endorsements in Los Angeles, including the endorsements of the Teamsters Joint Council 42; the Communications Workers of America, Southern California Council; and the Engineers and Architects Association.
