A Lot Can Happen in One Year

One year ago today, the voters entrusted me with the honor of serving as Mayor. I promised to get City Hall back to basics and focus on making our neighborhoods prosperous, safer, and more livable, and to make our city the best run city in the nation. And I'm proud that with your help, we are changing L.A.

I'm writing to you from Washington, where I just joined with the Secretary of Transportation and Senator Boxer to secure $2.1 billion to extend the Purple Line into the Westside. It's something that will create thousands of jobs, cut traffic and reduce pollution, and it's just one of the ways we're advancing our back to basics agenda.

I also just received news that City Council has passed my first budget as mayor. It's a balanced budget that restores city services and focuses spending on back-to-basics priorities. You can see it for yourself with my Open Budget portal which shows spending from department to program in easy-to-use, interactive visualizations. Check it out.

Help Change LA

Now that the election results are in, it is time to get to work. We're running a focused transition that will ensure we hit the ground running on July 1 with an agenda to create jobs and solve problems for L.A. residents.

I will get City Hall back to basics so that all of our neighborhoods are places where families thrive and businesses succeed. Through my experience helping revitalize neighborhoods like Hollywood, Echo Park, Silver Lake and Atwater Village, I know first-hand that the best government is one that partners with the people.

I want your help and your ideas. Please go here to get in touch.

This Victory Is Yours

Thank you.

This was a people-powered campaign and this victory is yours. Now it's time to take the next step in our journey together that began 623 days ago.

I am looking forward to working together with you to put the recession in the rear-view mirror, balance the budget, and build a stronger Los Angeles for us all.

Thanks again for your support. It means the world to me.

Welcome TechCrunch Readers!

about-image.pngWe're very excited to announce that TechCrunch's CrunchGov has endorsed Eric for Mayor, citing his work to champion and support LA's startup community. You can read some of the endorsement here:

"An overwhelming number of startup founders agree that Garcetti is the best candidate to bring out the best in Silicon Valley’s sister city to the south."

"Given the strong desire by L.A.’s startup community to see Garcetti in office, and his impressively geeky record as a city councilman, I’m compelled to endorse his candidacy and urge Angelenos to elect him as its next mayor on May 21st."

Techcrunch's Greg Ferenstein continues, "Nearly every startup we spoke to not only knew of Garcetti, but knew him personally. We cannot think of a policymaker in L.A. who has dedicated more of his time to our readers."

If you're just finding our site because of the endorsement, welcome! Make sure you join our email list, and, if you're in LA, sign up to help us get out the vote this weekend.  And please share this endorsement within the technology and startup communities.

Rocky Delgadillo and Greig Smith Endorse Eric

Building on the support he has already received from city leaders, Eric has been endorsed by both former Los Angeles Council Member Greig Smith and former City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo.

"Our next Mayor must now manage our recovery – not to merely rebuild what was," said Greig Smith, "but to shape the future of Los Angeles with vision, balance and with the experience and independence that we expect and deserve. I strongly believe that Eric Garcetti is that leader."

“We’re at crossroads in our city," said Rocky Delgadillo. "We need a mayor who will provide the kind of leadership that the city needs to rebuild and reinvest in our communities. Eric Garcetti has the passion and vision for making Los Angeles a better place to live for all of its citizens. His approach to governing is about creative problem-solving and marshaling all the right resources to get the job done.”

If you believe Eric is a leader with a vision for Los Angeles, join Greig and Rocky and endorse Eric today!

"Throughout his entire career, Eric Garcetti has stood up to protect our kids and communities from gun violence through local action and national advocacy. His proven track record of leadership against gun violence demonstrates the kind of Mayor he will be in protecting L.A. neighborhoods and in leveraging L.A.'s legislative might in Sacramento and Washington. I strongly endorse Eric Garcetti for Mayor."

Eric Endorsed By the LA Business Journal

We're thrilled that Eric earned the endorsement of the LA Business Journal. You can read the entire endorsement here, and here's a key excerpt (emphasis ours):

Garcetti for Mayor

By Charles Crumpley Monday, May 6, 2013

The two candidates for mayor of Los Angeles are much alike. Both Eric Garcetti and Wendy Greuel are lifelong Angelenos. Both are liberal Democrats. Both have more than 10 years’ experience at City Hall.

"This is the Business Journal’s first endorsement. We are doing it now because it is crucial that the city get on the right path."

Garcetti is an intelligent and reasonable administrator who, by several accounts, grew into his job as council president.

We endorse Eric Garcetti, and we hope he would grow into the job as mayor and understand he needs to fairly represent everyone.

Los Angeles Downtown News

4f4d562e1b528.pngToday the Downtown Los Angeles news has endorsed Eric Garcetti for mayor, calling him a leader who is prepared to deal with the problems L.A. faces now and will face in the future:

“These are only a few of the problems, challenges and issues the next mayor of Los Angeles — either City Controller Wendy Greuel or City Councilman Eric Garcetti — will have to face. On top of these are subjects such as reining in pension costs for municipal employees, trying to ease traffic congestion, doing what can be done from the mayor’s office to ensure children have high-quality educational choices, and leading and inspiring a wildly diverse city of 4 million people.

We think Garcetti is the better equipped of the candidates to handle these and other challenges and to lead Los Angeles over the next four years. Los Angeles Downtown News endorses Eric Garcetti for mayor.”
